    With a large number of services to deliver on limited resources, the Wanganui District Council looks to digital technologies to help it work smarter.

    Thanks to two new mobility tools, the council is now embracing remote working and Bring your own Device (BYOD) – and in turn, creating a level of frontline service unseen by many other New Zealand organisations.


    Mobility without the risk

    The new Citrix mobility tools, customised and deployed by Spark, encrypt applications and data before they are opened. IS Manager Jason Simons says this provides the kind of risk-adverse security the council requires for its people to file-share and access corporate information on the go – on any corporate or personal device.

    All enabled through the council’s own on-premise infrastructure, the solutions not only provide Jason and his IT team suitable control, but also integrate nicely into the council’s wider Citrix family of products; lowering the councils TCO and training requirements.


    On-the-job efficiencies

    Animal control officers, building inspectors, road engineers, environmental health officers and parking officers – just some of the councils frontline staff who are benefiting from being able to do their job from anywhere.“

    Through tailored applications, field staff can view historical notes, easily add information and photos, and update reports on the spot – there’s no double handling, less chance of error and a huge savings on skilled time.”


    Gone are the days of having to return to base to take action. New information and notifications are sent to personal or work devices in real-time, allowing staff to respond immediately to issues.


    Jason says it doesn’t stop there - the council will continue to leverage emerging mobile technologies. Developing its cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) solution is next on the roadmap.
